Out of Darkness Walk is Saturday

This year's Out of the Darkness Walk is set for Saturday morning at Whitney Commons.

Lisa O'Dell, who's a co-chair of the event, said registration starts at 9 a.m., with an opening ceremony about 10:30, and the walk will start probably around 11.

She said the Out of the Darkness Walks are the premier fundraiser for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

O'Dell said 50 percent of the funds raised in the walk here will come back to the Wyoming chapter of the suicide prevention foundation. Funds are used for programs and other materials in the effort to raise awareness and prevent suicide.

O'Dell said there's been an Out of the Darkness Walk in Sheridan every year since 2011, except for 2013 when the walk was held in Cody. People can – and have been – pre-registering for the walk, and O'Dell said during the last week, pre-registrations have been growing literally by the hour. By Wednesday afternoon, more than 100 people had pre-registered.

O'Dell said pre-registrations will end at noon Friday, but people can also register Saturday morning.

Rainy weather has forced the walk to move to Sheridan's YMCA in a couple of past years, but O'Dell said the walk will happen rain or shine.
