UPDATE: Oscar Noms Released - "Buck" Not on Final List

The Academy Awards Ceremony will be held in about a month, Sunday, February 26th, and the official nominations for the 84th annual presentation were announced this morning at 6:30, live from Los Angeles, CA.

One of those to be considered for Best Documentary was "Buck", which tells the story of Sheridan-based horse clinician Buck Brannaman. While the film made the short list out of 124 eligible, it didn't quite make it to the final nominations for the Academy Award.

Buck showed in about 152 theaters and made about $4 million, according to NPR. Because of the nature of a documentary, in that each receives a different scale of release - worldwide, nationwide or maybe just seen on Neflix, for example - eventual nominations for documentaries weigh largely on reviews in the New York Times and LA Times. Buck received a review in the New York Times in December, in which it was called one of the year's 10 best overall films.

The movie tells the story of how Brannaman is mindful of his past with an abusive father, using it in his care-taking giving the animals perhaps what he lacked as a child. Buck talked to Sheridan Media last May.

Brannaman will be our guest on the January 30th Public Pulse program.
