NWCCD Earns 'Military Friendly' Distinction

The Northern Wyoming Community College District was recently named a “Military Friendly” school for 2016. This is the fourth straight year the college district has received the distinction, from the Military Friendly Schools organization.

“Many selfless students who have served this country attend the colleges of the NWCCD,” said Dr. Paul Young, NWCCD president. “We thank them for their service and strive to help them pursue academic success.”

College officials say the honor is attributed to the NWCCD’s faculty and staff, namely Brett Burtis, Director of Veteran Services, who is committed to helping veteran students reach their academic goals.

“Since the college’s inception in 1948, the faculty and staff have been dedicated to helping veterans earn their education,” Burtis said. “We are thankful for the ‘Military Friendly’ recognition and are pleased to be recognized for our veterans program.”

The NWCCD includes Sheridan College, Gillette College and outreach centers in Johnson County.
According to the Military Friendly website, “Military Friendly Schools are the top 20 percent of schools nationwide that deliver the best experience for military students.”

Sheridan College’s recently renovated Thorne-Rider Campus Center features a Veterans Lounge that provides additional academic and gathering space for military and veteran students.  Gillette College’s new Pronghorn Center will also feature a Veterans Lounge.
