NWCCD Again Named 'Military Friendly' School

The Northern Wyoming Community College District has been named a “Military Friendly” school for 2015.

This makes the third year in a row that the college district has received the honor from the Military Friendly Schools organization. The district administers Sheridan College, Gillette College and the Johnson County outreach center.

The honor is given to the top 20 schools in the nation that deliver the best experience for military students. College officials credit the district's faculty and staff, in particular Brett Burtis, the director of Veteran Services. They said Burtis is committed to helping veteran students pursue academic success. He was named the Professional Employee of the Year last year by the Wyoming Association of Community College Trustees.

Sheridan College's recently renovated Thorne-Rider Campus Center features a Veterans Lounge designed to provide additional academic and gathering space for military and veteran students. Burtis said faculty and staff have been dedicated to helping veterans earn their education since the inception of Sheridan College in 1948.
