Next stop, Atlantic City, New Jersey, to represent Wyoming in the Miss America Beauty Pageant. Mikaela Shaw from Laramie was crowned Miss Wyoming Saturday night during the Miss Wyoming Scholarship Program Pageant held at the WYO Theater.

Her platform issue included “The Benefits of Music Education in Elementary Schools” and for the talent portion of the contest she played the violin. She understands the commitment.

There are five categories for judging the competition: talent, interview, evening wear, lifestyle and fitness in a swimsuit, and the on-stage question. Judge David Duke from Billings tells us what the four judges look for in a contestant.

Shaw succeeds Jessie Allen, Miss Wyoming 2014. Allen looks forward to the future.

The first place runner-up is Jessica Dyk from Cheyenne followed by second place runner-up Julia Rose from Gillette.
