New Floor Needed At Harold Jarrard Park Building

The Johnson County Commissioners, at their Tuesday meeting, heard from members of Kaycee's Harold Jarrard Park Board about the need for a new floor in the multi-purpose community building in the park.

Hugh Turk and Mike Wolcott said the floor is 12 years old and was designed for a ten-year life. It is starting to peel up and is becoming a hazard and is in need of replacing.

The board has discussed a number of options to replace the floor, which currently has a high-tech composite floor that could be used for multiple uses from basketball and other sports to weddings and community events. They believe the best choice to replace the floor would be some sort of wooden floor to accommodate the sports use but they realize it may take another composite floor to still allow the other uses.

The board wants the commission to approve and set up a multi-year account that can be used to deposit money toward the eventual replacement of the floor and then to be used as a depreciation fund.

The HJP Board wants to use some of their unused allocated funds as “starter funds” for the floor/depreciation account and build that account with donations and funds from the county, Rec Board and any other sources they can find.

The commission will look into creating a depreciation account for the HJP Board during the upcoming budget sessions.
