New Campaign Focuses on the Positive

The Advocacy and Resource Center is rolling out a new community educational campaign that focuses on positive reinforcement for healthy relationships. Rhonda Weber, victim advocate at the center, explains they were looking for a fresh approach to a long-standing societal problem.

Weber said people from around the community have been recruited to provide ideas and even demonstrate their personal vision of a healthy family. Instead of the traditional domestic violence awareness poster that shows a woman with a black eye or a crying child, this campaign us uplifting, and uniquely suited to the community.

Weber said she's received a great deal of local support to extend awareness of domestic violence beyond its designated month. She says the advocacy and resource center helps more than 500 clients annually, which includes both victims and others affected by unhealthy relationships. This new effort is seeking more input and sponsorship to gain momentum. To learn more about the Advocacy and Resource Center, call their business line at 672-7471. The center also sponsors a 24-hour crisis line at 672-3222.
