A long-awaited event happened Thursday in Sheridan. Sheridan Media reporter Pat Blair brings us the story.

Nearly 200 people attended the inauguration Thursday of the new commercial airline that will serve Sheridan and Johnson counties. Denver Air Connection's Dornier 328 jet arrived at the Sheridan County Airport around 11:30 with about a dozen passengers from Denver, in the midst of a celebration that included food, a Chamber bucks giveaway, a silent auction and a lot of smiling people.

That included Bruce Garber, chairman of CAST, the committee of Sheridan and Johnson county residents that's been working for months to see commercial air service restored in Sheridan.

Wade Goetz, who's in charge of business development for Denver Air Connection, was happy with the turnout for Thursday's event.

After a ribbon-cutting by the Chamber Ambassadors, more than a dozen area residents boarded the jet for a return flight to Denver. Dave Searle, who's the corporate volunteer officer for CAST, said not all were going just for fun.

In addition to Chamber and CAST representatives, those at the event included officials from Sheridan and Johnson counties and municipalities, business people and area residents.
