MOU Signed For Bomber Mt. Civic Center Shelter Plan

MOU Signed For Bomber Mt. Civic Center Shelter Plan

Johnson County's Commissioners agreed to and signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) for the Bomber Mountain Civic Center to be used as a shelter in an emergency event.

County Emergency Management Coordinator Marilyn Connolly said the agreement will allow the county to use the civic center's kitchen facilities, gym, showers, bathrooms and the facility is handicapped accessible. There is plenty of room in case people need to be sheltered for an extended length of time.

Connolly also said there are FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) funds available to purchase a generator for the facility in case it needs to be used as a shelter. Once the agreement is signed by the county and the civic center, she explained the next step in the process.

Although this agreement is important for the community, it isn't the end of the need for shelters here. More buildings will be sought out to be used as shelters, according to discussions at the meeting.

Connolly explained the need for the community to be as self-sufficient as possible in an emergency event.

The Kaycee/Buffalo/Johnson County Economic Development Joint Powers Board is in agreement with the MOU, according to Connolly.
