Miss America 2012: Vote For Miss Wyoming

Miss Wyoming 2011, Catherine Brown, has made her way to Las Vegas for the Miss America Pageant, and Wyoming can help her on her way to becoming Miss America 2012.

Brown had her personal interview with the judges Monday morning, and judges will chose the top thirteen from interview and talent portions of the competition.

There will be one surprise choice for the 14th semifinalist and this vote, America's Choice, determines the 15th.

Kelly Miller-Smart, co-Executive Director of the Miss Wyoming Scholarship Foundation, says that even though it is tough for Wyoming to win this vote, since it's population is smaller than some of the cities the other girls come from, she still encourages everyone to vote.

In the pageant, scholarship money is awarded to the top fifteen finishers, in amounts ranging from $50,000 for Miss America 2012 to $4,000.

Additional non-finalist scholarships can range from $1,000 to $6,000. Miss Wyoming 2010, Alicia Grove of Riverton, won a $3,000 non-finalist scholarship last year.

Smart says the girls are competing in more than just a beauty pageant; the girls all have platforms and do lots of community service.

Catherine Brown graduated with her Masters of Science, Speech Language Pathology from the University of Wyoming in 2010, and works in Gillette as a speech pathologist for the Campbell County School District. Brown is originally from Texas, but lived in Laramie for six years. Her mother is from Casper.
