The Sheridan Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees at the meeting Wednesday discussed the finalization of what is being termed the “Hospitalist Program” between the main campus and Big Horn Mountain Medicine, the hospital's primary care practice. Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty explains.

McCafferty says the physicians that make up the Hospitalist Service will follow a rotation schedule.

He adds the idea is that there is always access to a physician for the nurses, patients and their families at all times. The Hospitalist Program supports a patient's primary care physician by allowing him or her to focus on seeing patients in their office. While it is challenging for a primary care physician to balance being available to both office patients and hospitalized patients, a Hospitalist has immediate availability and is in contact with primary care physicians upon a patient's admission, discharge and at other times during care.

The Hospitalist Program at Sheridan Memorial Hospital will begin April 1st.
