Medical Office About 18 Months Away

A new medical office for Sheridan Memorial Hospital staff is about 18 months away.

That's the hope of hospital CEO Mike McCafferty. He said hospital administration has been considering such a facility for a number of years. The need has grown as the hospital has hired more doctors and other staff and assumed more responsibilities for medical care in Sheridan County.

No firm design plans are in place yet, but the CEO said hospital administration has taken input not only from doctors and other staff but from patients regarding needs. The hospital currently employs more than 20 doctors, and two more will be coming next summer. At this point, the CEO said, administrators are probably looking at a two-story building of around 50,000 square feet.

Options are also being considered for location of the proposed new facility, but the CEO said the goal is to create a hub for outpatient services close to the hospital. He said proximity is an important factor.

A new building is still in the discussion phase for now, but the CEO said the next step will be to develop a timeline and strategy for moving forward. The project would be funded through hospital operations.
