During the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations, residents in Johnson County can legally set off fireworks but are reminded to be careful with them.

Even with the wet spring and early summer we've had so far, fires are still a possibility.

Buffalo Mayor Shane Schrader wanted to remind residents of Buffalo that fireworks are not permitted in the city.

In Johnson County, consumer fireworks are legal to set off on private land with permission from the landowner.

It is illegal to set off fireworks on state lands, BLM lands, state parks and historic sites, on national forest lands and grasslands and at national parks within the state.

For questions concerning fireworks, contact the City of Buffalo at (307) 684-5566; and contact Johnson County at (307) 684-7272.
