Mandarin Class To Be Offered This Fall At SCJC

Last week Sheridan College in Johnson County sponsored a presentation by Todd Cornell on his 20 years living in China and will continue to display his collection of Chinese artwork and artifacts through the end of May.

Although it has been known for awhile, it was officially announced during the presentation that Cornell will be teaching a Mandarin class at the Buffalo campus this fall.

Cornell is proficient in the language and holds a degree in Mongolian Language and Literature from Inner Mongolian University.

He tells us more about the language he will be teaching this fall.

Cornell said the language can be a challenge to learn, but it is not as difficult as some may think.

Cornell said English-speaking nations, like the U.S., are very backwards linguistically, with most of the people in those countries not fluent in a second language. That is starting to change, he said, but he feels it is important for people here to learn a second language to secure a place in the global economy, and to be exposed to a different culture.

For more information or to sign up for the class, contact the SCJC office at 684-2001.
