Main Street Businesses Want Wheels Off Sidewalks

Sheridan's Historic Business District Committee is working to have signs posted downtown to make people aware bicycles and skateboards are not allowed on sidewalks along Main Street in the historic district. Chamber of Commerce executive director, Dixie Johnson, said it's been on the minds of local businesses for a while.

Johnson said she's heard stories from almost every business owner downtown about accidents or near-misses between pedestrians and bicyclists, skateboarders, or roller skaters. She said many people who bring their wheels downtown aren't aware they're breaking a law. The committee agreed signs posted in the area would bring attention to the issue and give police more leverage in enforcing the regulation.
