State Representative Mike Madden recently voted against a bill that would increase money allocated to county and city governments in the state by nearly six percent.

The bill made it out of the State Revenue Committee anyway, which Madden is a member, but his vote was questioned by a number of local government officials.

Madden explains what the bill would do.

Madden said it is a matter of being careful with the state's finances and it is not meant to hurt local governments, but to look out for all of the citizens of the state.

He explains why he voted against the bill.

Madden said fluctuating revenues are the main complaint with local governments but that until a better option comes along, this is how local funding will be done.
