Local Ranchers Want Ag Water Rights Protected

A group of ranchers with irrigation interests revolving around outflow of Lake DeSmet area submitted a petition to the Sheridan County commissioners for their considerations in negotiating the reallocation of Lake DeSmet water rights. Approximately 22 ranchers from the Clear Creek and Piney Creek areas added their signatures for the commissioners' consideration. Commissioner, Bob Rolston.

Regardless of the final decision reached by Sheridan County, Johnson County, and the Lake DeSmet Counties Coalition, they have agreed on five non-negotiable points that must remian intact when moving forward with Lake DeSmet. Among those five points, protection of agricultural water interests was listed first.
