Local Council Receives Recreation Grant

The Johnson County Recreation District recently approved close to $840,000 in grant funds for many different city and county projects as well as local clubs and organizations.

The goal of the the district is to support recreation in the area and arts and culture.

One recipient of the grant funding is the Johnson County Arts and Humanities Council. Program Director Vikki Chennette said the council received $3,250 dollars in grants to help fund their local community art programs.

The goal of the the district is to support recreation in the area, she said, and she is glad they extended that definition to include to arts and culture.

The organization received a similar grant last year, she said, which gave the council the ability to move their files and records out of storage units and in to an office on Main Street.

The council also received around $13,500 for the upcoming Bluegrass Camp For Kids which is set for the July 8 through the 11 right before the Big Horn Musical Festival. She said the money will help pay for the instruments, among other things.

Expect to hear more about the district's grants and where they will be going in Johnson County this week.
