Lightning Causes Several Fires Around the Region

Officials with the Bighorn National Forest Service have confirmed that lightning that moved through the area Thursday sparked several small fires in the National Forest and one on private land near the Bud Love Wildlife Management Area. Crews with the National Forest and Johnson County have responded to the fire. There are several other small fires burning on the National Forest that crews expect to be contained quickly.

The Mull Draw Fire, 30 miles northeast of Sheridan is approximately 200 acres and has scorched land in Montana and Wyoming.  The fire in Wyoming is 100% contained.

A red flag warning remains in effect until midnight tonight
due to increasing thunderstorm activity throughout most of south central Montana, parts of southeast Montana, and parts of north central Wyoming.
