Lightening Starts Forest Fire Near Dayton

A fire started by lightening Wednesday night has eaten up at least two acres of forest west of Dayton.

The Little Tongue Fire is located along Highway 14 between Sand Turn and Steamboat Rock. The fire is close to beetle killed timber, cabins and private land. Linda Hartman, Fire Information Officer for the Big Horn Forest, said the situation is being closely monitored.

A media release from the Forest Service advises that smoke may settle over Dayton, Ranchester and Sheridan, though it is not expected to be heavy, based on current fire behavior.
