YMCA Receives Survey Funds, Library Opts Out

The Johnson County Library reported to the county commissioners at their meeting this week that they do not wish to participate in the survey of public opinion that will be conducted by the YMCA.

The commissioners, in 2012, had set aside a perpetual fund for the YMCA to help with their expansion project, and they requested to use some of those funds for the survey. The commissioners put the funds on hold to give the library a chance to put their expansion project on the survey as well, which will determine whether or not the public wants the expansion projects and if they will support a one-cent
special use sales tax to help pay for them.

Library Director Cynthia Twing said everyone involved on the library's end could see any reason to add their project to the survey.

The commissioners voted to approve paying the $15,000 voucher to the YMCA to pay for their survey.
