Library Hosts 'Downton Abbey'-style Tea

It's time for high tea at Highclere Castle. Well, only in our dreams, maybe.

But some just may get a better idea what that would feel like by attending the local library's tea party in celebration of the 4th season premier of PBS's Masterpiece Theater's Downton Abbey, which is filmed at the castle in England. The fourth season premiere of the hit television period drama aired Sunday night.

The tea party will be held tonight, Jan. 7, at 7, at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library, hosted by Judy Fuller. Fuller hails from New Zealand and owns Kiwi Katering in Sheridan. Period dress is encouraged, but not necessary to attend.

Though the event takes place in the evening, organizers say the gathering will follow the ritual of an afternoon tea service, with scones and other snacks being served. Historic tea sets from the library's Wyoming Room collection will be on display.

Highclere Castle is the county seat of the Earle of Carnarvon. The current dowager there is Jean Wallop, the sister of the Wyoming Senator Malcolm Wallop. She married the Seventh Earle of Carnarvon, Henry Herbert, in 1956.
