Library Board Updates Jo Co Commission On Expansion

Members of the Johnson County Library Board met with the county commissioners at their meeting this week to update them on their proposed expansion project and where in the planning process the project currently sits.

Cynthia Twing told the commissioners that the board had hired Plan One of Cody for the draft design work, which the board will be paying to have done.
With the architect hired, she said, the first step in the process is public outreach to gather public input on the library expansion project, tentatively scheduled for next month.

The library is moving forward in the planning stages to expand the library to roughly double it's current size. Properties to the north of the current library have been in in their sites for purchase for a number of years.

Discussions on the expansion included a cautious tone from new commissioner Jim Hicks, who said he feels the public is a little weary of new capital construction projects. He will adopt a “wait and see” attitude on the expansion.

Twing shared some insight from one architect she spoke to about the proposed project.

The public input meetings have tentatively been scheduled for February 5th, 6th, and 7th with a site to be determined.
