Legislature Debates Community College Funding

Representative Rosie Berger, co-chair of the Joint Appropriations Committee, says budget discussions are well underway in Cheyenne as yesterday in the House they heard 48 amendments on second reading for the budget bill or House Bill 1.

The $3.2 billion basic bill was introduced to the full legislature Tuesday and is also being debated this week in the full Senate. Berger says that this is one of two times that legislators amend the bill for the biennium.

The Northern Wyoming Community College District's three campuses have seen about a 45 percent increase in enrollment over the last two years.

The potential $8.8 million is less than the $15 million Wyoming's seven community colleges had requested from governor Matt Mead in his budget recommendations.

Check back later for more on bills moving through the legislature that may have an impact here in Sheridan.
