Leather Trade Show Under Way in Sheridan

The annual Rocky Mountain Leather Trade Show will be open to the public this weekend at Sheridan's Holiday Inn.

The event will be 9 until 5 Friday and Saturday, 9 until 2 Sunday. Charil Reis with the Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal shared some of the details.

The show is open free to the public. Reis said it's been held in Sheridan for 23 years, and this is the 21st year at the Holiday Inn. She said the first two years were at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds. She said events this year include the World Leather Debut.

She said more than 200 artworks have been submitted for the show, which is a record number. That show will also be free to the public. Also new, and free to the public, this year is an exhibition of engraved silver pieces. Reis said the one part of the event that people do pay for is the workshops, which started Monday and continue through the weekend.

The show is hosted by the Leather Crafters Journal which, this year, is offering more than 60 workshops, with 26 instructors. Reis said because of space issues, some of the workshops had to be moved to Sheridan College. She said nearly 600 registered for the workshops this year, which is also a record.
