The Lake DeSmet Counties Coalition Joint Powers Board held their October meeting in Buffalo Thursday evening and the main topic of discussion at the meeting was the possible separate marketing of water rights by Johnson and Sheridan Counties.

Edith LaMeres-Johnson, with LDCC JPB, gave some recommendations to the board concerning how she felt they should continue with the possibility of separate rights and also said that both counties had been in negotiations this week trying to reach an agreement that she said looked to be not that far form being done. Her suggestion was for the JPB to act as a “mediator” between the counties to help them come to an agreement.

After discussions between board members, the public in attendance and commission members of both counties, JPB Board Vice President Tracy Rhodes then made a motion concerning the three entities.

The Board approved the motion and after discussions the decision was made to have one representative appointed by each county along with JPB Board Chairman David Garber meet to hash out the two county's differences and bring their findings back to each entity for approval.

The meeting with the three representatives will be scheduled as soon as possible, as a decision needs to be made soon on the proposed lease.
