Late Night Calls Not From Code Red System

Over the last couple of weeks, Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator Marilyn Connolly has received reports that people in the county have been getting late-night phone calls where messages were claiming the calls were coming from the county.

Residents who have received the calls had notified the county questioning whether the calls might have been coming from either a defective Code Red Notification System, or from an individual or group that may have somehow hacked the system.
Connolly said she has investigated the issue with Code Red, and the calls are not originating from them, and so far, they have no idea where they are originating from.

Connolly is asking the pubic to notify her if they receive one of these calls, and if possible, try to get a number from their phone's Caller ID readout, although she did say some calls show as “Unknown.”

She explains what to be aware of for the call to be legitimately from the county's notification system.

If you receive one of these calls, contact Connolly at 217-1879.
