Laramie Police Step Up Patrols Before Big Game

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Police in Laramie are stepping up patrols in advance of this weekend's football game between the University of Wyoming Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns.

Commander Mitchell Cushman of the Laramie Police Department says the sold-out game on September 12th could draw as many as 20,000 people from out of town. He says hotels as far away as Ft. Collins, Colorado are filling up with sports fans heading to the game.

Cushman says the department anticipates that the festive atmosphere of having the big game following the Labor Day Weekend could lead to more people drinking alcohol. Cushman says the Laramie Police Department is working to get as many officers as possible on patrol. He encourages local residents to be patient when they need police to respond.
