Lake DeSmet Water Rights Split

Marketing water rights on Lake DeSmet was the key issue Tuesday morning addressed by the Sheridan County Commissioners. The Commissioners approved a resolution to the Lake DeSmet Joint Powers Board agreement that would give Sheridan County the option to market their 45 percent share of the lake as they see fit.

The problem lies in the fact that the Johnson County Commissioners must also approve a resolution allowing both counties to market their share of the water. Commissioner Bob Rolston.

Commissioner Tom Ringley says that the frustration level over the whole ordeal is running high.

Sheridan County will have to once again take a wait and see approach on whether the Johnson County Commissioners will approve a similar resolution, giving each county control to market their share of the water rights on Lake DeSmet.
