Former President Reagan talked about a shining city on a hill, and President Trump talks about making America great again.

Sheridan County's Senator Dave Kinskey talked about those and other parallels between the two presidents at the county Republican Women's luncheon earlier this week.

Kinskey said he reflects often on the parallels between the two men.

Kinskey said Reagan's predecessor in the White House, Jimmy Carter, said the best days of America were behind us, and we would never solve the energy crisis.

Kinskey said Reagan and Trump both talked about a strong national defense, about securing our borders and about putting America first. He said both men inspired blue-collar union Democrats to vote for a Republican president.

He said both were criticised for tax cuts and de-regulation. Kinskey said the last time the number of regulations went down, rather than up, was when Reagan was president.

He said Reagan campaigned on a simple platform, asking, “Are you better off today than you were four years ago.” Kinskey said that is the essential question for today, and clearly all Americans are better off today than they were two years ago.
