During their latest session, the Wyoming State Legislature passed new standards for juvenile detention facilities. Sheridan County Justice Office Administrator Neal Madson feels the new standards are a step in the right direction.

The Justice Office has compiled data from 1999 to 2009 that shows the history of over 1,000 clients ranging from 9 to 18 years of age. Madson says that recently, the statistics show that substance abuse is occurring at a younger age.

As far as where the kids are getting the prescription drugs?

Madson says that a good idea for parents is to lock up their medication and to keep tabs on where it is and who has access to it at all times.
