After a four day trial in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan, a jury came back Thursday evening with a verdict of “guilty” to the charge of Aggravated Child Abuse against Sheridan resident Robert Swett.

Swett was arrested earlier this year following an incident on January 12 that resulted in his 5-month old child having a fractured skull and retinal hemorrhaging. Throughout the trial, Swett stood by his story that the child fell out of his grasp and hit his head in the bathtub. Physicians with Children’s Hospital Colorado testified that the injuries to the child were consistent with being shaken or thrown, not dropped.

District Court Judge John Fenn ordered that a presentence investigation be conducted and remanded Swett back to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center. A sentencing date will be set in the near future.
