Buffalo's new school now has a new name after the Johnson County School District 1 Board of Trustees made their decision at their meeting Monday night. Buffalo's new school will be known as Cloud Peak Elementary School.

The board made their decision after kids from Clear Creek and Meadowlark Elementary Schools made a presentation on their voting process and what they learned from it, and a presentation from the naming committee on their findings from the online community vote which were combined with the school kids' votes. After all votes were tallied, Cloud Peak was by far the favorite of those voting.

Of 805 total votes, Cloud Peak received 465 votes, followed by Buell Elementary with 171 and Cottonwood Elementary with 169.

But it was apparent that all three names were popular within the community. Board member Mark Gordon made a suggestion that at first seemed ridiculous but after some thought became a great compromise.

Cloud Peak Elementary School is expected to go to bid soon with the bid to be awarded in January or February of 2012 and construction tentatively set to begin right after the contract is awarded this Spring.
