This Saturday, May 12, the Johnson County Library will be hosting a book signing for author Tim Slessor, featuring his new book, “More Than Cowboys,” about the American West.

According to Steve Rzasa with the library, an article from the Oxford (UK) Times said Slessor is a 40-year veteran of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) who was sent to the west in the early 1960s where he become hooked on the “people, history, skies, scale, everything about (the West.)”

Rzasa tells us more.

Local historian Bob Edwards, according to Rzasa, said Slessor spent time in Johnson County while working on the “America” series for Alistair Cooke, and still visits Buffalo. Much of his research for his new book was done at the Johnson County Library and Jim Gatchell Museum.

Slessor will have copies of his book available at the signing and will give a short talk beginning at 7pm Saturday evening at the library.
