Johnson County Gets Update On Shooting Complex

Johnson County Gets Update On Shooting Complex

Johnson County's Commissioners, at their last meeting, heard an update from those interested in building an indoor shooting range in Buffalo.

Organizers for the “Johnson County Indoor Shooting Complex” said they are now ready to file their Articles Of Incorporation with the state and file paperwork with the IRS to be recognized as a non-profit organization.

What they are seeking from the county is a piece of land to house their building. Although they don't have the money to build the complex in-hand, co-organizer Mike Mestemaker said the money has been earmarked by the National Rifle Association for the complex once they are a tad more organized.

He explains further.

The group is not seeking monetary help from the county, only a place to locate the complex, either at the fairgrounds or at their preferred location near the airport.

The commissioners suggested the group speak with the Airport Board to get their opinion on the matter, and to work with County Attorney Ken DeCock to work out details and bring their proposal to the next commission meeting October 16th for their consideration.
