Johnson County Gets Positive Health Insurance Report

Cobecon, Johnson County's provider for employee health insurance, gave a mostly positive report to the commissioners at their last meeting.

Cobecon representative Ryan Theiss said that although the county has seen an increase in volume of claims so far this year, they have been for one-time treatments such as surgeries as opposed to ongoing conditions.
That coupled with switching to Blue Cross/Blue Shield with deeper discounts has lowered the amount the county has had to pay out for claims to about the same level as last year.

He explains further.

He also said the county has seen an increase in the number of employees participating in the program.

Obamacare, or the Affordable Care Act, will also mean a lot of changes for employers including the county, and Theiss said they are still studying the changes and waiting on the Federal Government for information on the new laws and regulations that will take effect as the Affordable Care Act is implemented.
New taxes, fees and other costs are expected with the implementation as well, and Theiss said they are continuing to study the act to learn more.

Cobecon will have more information to share with the commission at their next scheduled meeting in 6 to 8 weeks, according to Theiss.
