Last month's Full-Scale Disaster Drill in Johnson County was a success and “went very well,” according to County Emergency Management Coordinator Marilyn Connolly, in a follow-up report to the county commissioners.

He drill was staged Saturday, September 16th at the county airport and Johnson County Healthcare Center, involving all of the county's emergency responders dealing with a scenario where there is an airplane crash at the airport.

In her report to the commissioners, Connolly said there were three positive things she could identify that came from the exercise, but the main one was how emergency responders came together, as they always do, when needed.

Connolly also identified the county's Mobile Command Unit and how well it worked during the exercise, and that additional resources being identified for future emergency situations as the other two positives to come from the exercise.

According to Connolly, these types of exercises are performed annually and are designed to help first responders practice skills and resolve issues to prepare for an actual event.
