Johnson County Commissioners Approve $42 Million Budget

Johnson County's Commissioners held their regular meeting Monday instead of Tuesday and worked through a short agenda, mainly concerning the budget for FY 2012-2013.

Valuation in the county was reported to be $1,095,175,553 which was $400,000 less than previous estimates, and required some minor adjustments to the final budget.

The budget, as passed, was $38.6million which included funding for the Fair Board, the Johnson County Library and the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum.
With One-Percent funds added, the final budget is $42.2million.

The county was able to carry over nearly $8million from last year's budget and the commissioners decided to set up “Perpetual Funds” for various entities with some of the excess funds.

Of the carried over $8million, $1.5million was set aside for a County Building Perpetual Fund; $100,000 for a YMCA Perpetual Fund; $1million for a Lake DeSMet Perpetual Fund; and roughly $345,000 for a Fairgrounds Perpetual Fund.

That left $5million from last year's budget for the commissioners to put into the County Reserve Funds account.
