Johnson County Backs District Ranger In Buffalo

Johnson County Backs District Ranger In Buffalo

Concerns that the US Forest Service may be planning to not fill the position of District Ranger for the Powder River District of the Bighorn National Forest now that previous District Ranger Mark Booth has retired, has prompted some in the community to voice those concerns and address the US Forest Service, including Johnson County's Commissioners.

The Johnson County Commissioners voted to send a letter to the USFS supporting keeping a district ranger in Buffalo, as explained by Commission Chairman Bill Novotny.

Although the specific concerns with the possibility of not having a district ranger in the Buffalo Field Office are the loss of local decisions concerning the forest, and the possibility that the Buffalo Field Office might close in the future, that possibility of closure of the office has been denied by USFS officials.
