Johnson County Approves Budget Amendment For Grant

The Johnson County Commissioners, at their last meeting, approved Chairman Delbert Eitel to sign Resolution No. 472, approving the submission of the funds to the county budget for the Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan for Johnson County.

The FEMA grant is for $35,500 from Homeland Security with an $8,875 local match to pay for the county's Hazard Mitigation Plan that will be compiled by County Emergency Management Coordinator Marilyn Connolly.

County Clerk Vicki Edelman explained that the grant is already in place, but the Resolution allows her to create a line in the budget for the grant.

She shared more information on the subject with the commissioners.

Connolly has hired Michael Baker, Jr., Inc. from Lakewood, Colorado to update the emergency plan for the county.

The plan must be updated and re-written every five years and the county must implement this FEMA-approved Hazard Mitigation Plan or risk not qualifying for future Federal aid.
