Johnson County Appoints Lake DeSmet Operating Board

At their Tuesday meeting the Johnson County Commissioners appointed Harvey Crowe, Rande Money and Jim Hicks to the Lake DeSmet Operating Board.

Bylaws and organizational documents will be drawn up between the commissioners and the newly-appointed board in the near future.

Crowe is a past Texaco employee who is now retired, according to Commissioner John Gibbs, so he will bring years of experience at the Lake to the board. Hicks has past experience on the Wyoming Water Development Commission and Money is currently designated by the county to oversee daily functions and operations at the lake.

After the vote, Money gave a brief report to the commission, saying the State Engineer's Office had released information on levels at the lake.
The office takes monthly readings at the lake and reports back to the county.

Levels at the lake are up .26 feet overall, to an elevation of 4,607.09 feet above sea level.
That .26 of a foot equates to about 780 acre-feet of water gained in the reservoir, Money said.
Water stored in the lake is catching up from evaporation and other losses, but Money said weather, snowpack and runoff in the next few months will determine how bad or good this year's irrigation supply will be in the lake.
