Job Description, Selection Committee OK'd For Planner Position

Johnson County's Commissioners approved a job description and selection committee to fill the position of new County Planner they plan to hire to consolidate the department.

The commissioners, during this year's budget talks, decided to shrink the staff of the county planning department from two positions to one, and consolidate the responsibilities into one position to cover both the planning duties and those of the GIS (Global Information Services) specialist.

According to the commissioners, both of the current employees in the county planning department, Rob Yingling and Jim Waller, will have the opportunity to apply for the new position, but one of them will obviously be out of a job once the commissioners hire for the new position.

Approved by the commissioners for the selection committee were Travis Pearson, Dennis Frank, Theo Hershfield, John Ehlers, and Hugh Turk.

The committee will review the applications and make three recommendations to the commissioners for their consideration.
