Jo Co To Seek Extension for Murphy Creek Bridge

Jo Co To Seek Extension for Murphy Creek Bridge

The Johnson County Commission approved a request from Road and Bridge to seek an extension for placing posts at the Murphy Creek Bridge in southern Johnson County to restrict the types of traffic that can use the bridge.

Road and Bridge was asking the Bureau of Land Management for a 60-day extension to place the posts at the bridge.

Scott Pehringer, Road and Bridge Supervisor, told the commissioners at their last meeting that he had been contacted by the BLM and asked why the posts had not been placed.

The bridge sits on BLM land but is accessed through private land in the county. It has traditionally been used by ranchers in the area to move stock along a nearby trail.

The BLM gave the bridge to the County in exchange for its upkeep and for installing the posts to keep traffic limited to foot, horse or four-wheelers only.

At Tuesday's meeting, Commission Chair Smokey Wildeman explained the need for the extension.

The approved request will be sent to the BLM.
