Jo Co School Enrollment Up Over Last Year

Enrollment at Johnson County Schools, as we reported earlier this week, is at 1,303 students overall, up 61 students district-wide over the end of the school year in June of 2011.
School Superintendent Dr. Rod Kessler told the school board Monday night that trends over the last few years have shown steady, significant growth in the number of students in the district.
The new intermediate school that will be built in Buffalo in 2012 and house the third, fourth and fifth grades and will alleviate some of the crowding issues, he told the board.
At Meadowlark School, there are 91 kindergarteners, 83 first graders, 105 second graders and 82 third graders for a total of 361 students. That is up 25 students since June.
At Clear Creek Elementary there are 83 fourth graders and 73 fifth graders for a total of 156 kids, down nine since June.
Clear Creek Middle School has 86 sixth graders, 78 seventh graders and 81 eighth graders totaling 245 students, down five since June.
Buffalo High School has 93 freshmen, 97 sophomores, 96 juniors and 93 seniors for a total of 379 kids, an increase of 41 since June.
Kaycee's K through 12 school has 162 total students, up nine overall since last year.
The numbers are based on enrollment numbers from Monday and may change some this week, according to Kessler.
