At their meeting Monday night, Johnson County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees voted to accept two bids, one for a remodeling project at Meadowlark Elementary School and another for the lease/purchase of three school buses from the state.

School District Business Manager Matt Ramey explained to the board how the lease/purchase process works.

The district advertised bids from local lending institutions for the best percentage rate and terms for the five-year loan for the buses.

First National bank of Buffalo was the lone bidder with an annual percentage rate of 3.9 percent, and was awarded the contract for the purchase of the buses. The three buses are a 2012 66-passenger International, a 2012 78-passenger International and a 2012 60-passenger Thomas. Two will be used for activities and one will be a route bus, according to Ramey.

Also accepted was a bid from O'Dell Construction of Sheridan on a remodeling project at Meadowlark Elementary School.

The bids ranged from O'Dell's bid of $143,150 for the base bid up to $212,000. A separate alternate bid for another project was also bid on, and the bids ranged from $25,368 up to $32,000 with O'Dell's bid coming in at $27,012.

The board accepted both bids from O'Dell Construction for the work at the school. The project timeline, according to Ramey, will be from June 6 to July 15, 2011.
