Jo Co Library Asks Commission for Expansion Direction

The Johnson County Library Foundation Board approached the County Commissioners at last week's meeting to seek direction on where they should go in addressing the library's expansion or possible relocation.
The board had a study completed that said the library has seriously outgrown its current location, and looked into possibilities for expansion of the library.
The only property adjacent to the library that could be purchased, according to the study, is an apartment complex north of the current library.
If the library or the county were to purchase that property, raze the apartments and add on to the current building, it would double the size of the library.
Bill Dooley, representing the Foundation Board, explained what they were seeking from the commission.
The commissioners said they were aware that something needed to be done by either expanding the library, building a larger one at a different location, or purchasing an existing building and renovating it.
The commission suggested the board look into the different options, get cost estimates and report back to them.
