Jo Co Commission Hires New Assistant

The Johnson County Commissioners extended an offer of employment for the commissioner's assistant position that will become vacant with the retirement this Friday of current assistant Peggy Sillivan.

More than 20 applications were submitted to the commissioners, and over the last few weeks, they narrowed the candidates down to six that they interviewed and made their selection from.

At Tuesday's meeting they had two possible candidates and an alternate they were willing to hire.

Commissioner Smokey Wildeman said all 20 candidates were well qualified for the position, and the decision was not an easy one for the commissioners to make.

Wildeman made the announcement at the commission meeting.

The position was offered to Jackson in a phone call, and she tentatively accepted the offer at that time, saying she would give her final decision to the commissioners later that day. She eventually accepted the position, and Her first day on the job will be Tuesday, July 5th.
