Jo Co Commission Discusses Job, Budgets in Special Meeting

Johnson County's Commissioners held a special meeting Tuesday to discuss the candidates for the soon to be vacant Commissioner's Assistant position and to discuss the budgets from the department heads.

The commission went into executive session to discuss the applicants for the job, but no decision was made. That decision will come next week, according to Commission Chairman Smokey Wildeman.

Wildeman did not say how many applicants initially applied for the job, but that the six finalists were all good candidates to take the position that will open when current assistant Peggy Sillivan retires June 24.

Also at the special meeting, the commission discussed the budgets of the various departments, agreeing with most of the budget requests, but a number of requests will be discussed next week as some department heads were not available for today's meeting.

County Road and Bridge's budget was applauded by the commissioners for coming in at $225,000 less this year than last year's total.

Treasurer Carla Faircloth had requested raises for some of her employees and the commissioners approved raises for Assistants “A” and “D” in her budget up to a total for each yearly salary of $35,000.

Assessor Cindy Rogers had requested two new part-time employees in her office, but the commission had questions regarding her budget and tabled the discussion until Tuesday's regular meeting.

The meeting will begin at 9am at the Johnson County Courthouse.
