At the Johnson County Commissioner's meeting last week, Clerk of District Court Thelma Axberg told the commissioners that an additional circuit court judge for the county has been tentatively deemed as needed, and approval and funding will be sought next.
Axberg said the Wyoming Board of Judicial Policy recently met and discussed the possibility and are recommending moving forward with getting another circuit judge.
Axberg explains.
Johnson County's population and the workload in the cicuit court have both increased to the point where the possibility of a second judge has been discussed for a few years, but with the new judicial center scheduled to begin construction this summer, planning for the additional judge has begun in earnest.
Approval by and funding for the additional circuit judge will be sought at the next Wyoming Legislative session and if approved, the new judge could be ready to move into the new judicial center when it is completed in late 2012.
