The Johnson County Commissioners, at their meeting Monday, approved a contract from Rocky Mountain Power to supply electricity to the new recycling center now under construction.

The contract will allow RMP to run an overhead power line to the building from an existing power pole.

Commission chair Smokey Wildeman explains the contract.

The commissioners could have approved a monthly contract to pay the $20,487 bill for supplying power, but financing would have doubled the amount they paid for the privilege.

The commissioners voted to approve the contract and to pre-pay the bill a to save the taxpayers money in the long run.

Power should be hooked up to the building within five or six weeks, according to information provided to the commission by Pacificorp, parent company of Rocky Mountain Power.
